Back at it!

I managed to find a backup from before the hard drive crash, but it's still far from where I wanted to be. The good news, however, is that I won't be starting from scratch. What this means is that my motivation to work on it is growing. I hope to spend a few days on it and get it back up to where it was and then use that momentum to actually get it done this time.

A Series of Unfortunate Events

It all started with being busy at work. I let my attention got pulled to other things and I started to get back into the habit of not working on RoK. Then a few weeks ago I lost the hard drive on my computer. I didn't think I had lost anything irreplacable until this morning when I decided to work on some of the new systems. Turns out I lost all my code and have to start all over.

So yeah, I'm a little discouraged, but this time I'll be backing up as I go so it won't happen again.

A moment about features

Since it's going to be a little while before most of you will be able to see the finished product, I thought I'd take a moment to talk about one of the things that made me want to write my own game. I hope to have a few of these as I work on the game to help keep you interested. I will move them into their own section eventually, but for now this is where they are.

The most innovative is the ability to have multiple characters per account. While it probably won't be in the initial launch, I'm keeping that in mind when I work. I've worked on a number of games over the years and the one thing I heard over and over was that people wanted to be able to create a new character and start over with everything they'd learned. Unfortunately, the only way to do this was to delete their existing char and make them register a whole new account. With RoK you can have multiple characters under the same account. This will let people experiment with aspects of the game without affecting their main character. This will (hopefully) lead to a main character that members find more fulfilling and fun to play.

Coding gets under way

I've started on some of the basic systems of the game. At this point they're all offline and I'm working locally, but don't fret, I'll be uploading them soon.

The Rebirth of a Legend

I've been distracted over the years, and for that I appologize, but I'm finally at a point in my life where I can bring ROK back and I'm going to do it.

I'm rewriting everything. I've learned a lot over the years, so I'm going to make ROK using the best practices and code-writing that I know. Every bit of code is going to be redone from scratch to ensure it's as good as it can possibly be.

I've come up with a quick list of things I want to have done before I open the site to the public and will be updating it as I get things done. This list is subject to change as I think of new things, but it will give you a rough idea of where things stand.

As I get closer to launch, I may have need for some people to test. What you see may or may not be the final result, as I may change things as a result of the testing, and there will be a final reset before launch. Hopefully with your help and support I'll be able to bring ROK back to its former glory.
